How to know if you’re eligible for ClearCaptions

Since ClearCaptions services are funded by a federally managed program, they’re only available to qualified individuals. See full requirements below.

Eligibility criteria

Are you hard of hearing?

To qualify, you must certify that you have a degree of hearing loss that requires captions to use the phone. During setup, you simply self-certify your hearing loss to verify that you are a qualified user of the service. It’s that easy!  

Do you live in the United States?

ClearCaptions is only available to those who live in the United States and its territories.

Do you have Internet?

In order to use the ClearCaptions service you need to have home Internet access or a data plan on an Apple iOS device.

Do you communicate in English?

At this time, ClearCaptions service is only available in English.

The ClearCaptions Phone displays near real-time phone captions on an easy-to-use touchscreen display. Title IV of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) makes this service available at no cost to qualified U.S. residents.

Yes. The caption speed and size are completely customizable. When our specialist installs your phone, they will also show you how to customize the caption phone to your liking. You can also find information about customizing your caption phone under Support.

To qualify for a captioning phone through ClearCaptions, you must be a U.S. resident who can certify that you are deaf or hard of hearing and need captions in order to use the phone. Since our caption services are currently only available in English, you’ll also need to speak and read English. An internet connection is also required to install the ClearCaptions phone.
